Brain Treatment Center Michigan is an in-network VA Community Care Network provider. If you're enrolled in VA healthcare, you may be able to access MeRT® neurostimulation treatment at no additional cost through your existing VA coverage.
The VA Community Care system requires precise language and self-advocacy to ensure your referral reaches the right clinic. Follow these five steps exactly — and don't hesitate to contact us if you need help navigating the process.
Make an appointment with your VA Primary Care Provider (PCP) or VA Mental Health Provider. This is the starting point for any Community Care referral.
Be specific. If the referral does not name the clinic and location precisely, you may be routed to a generic TMS provider instead of Brain Treatment Center Michigan.
If the referral is not specific, you may be routed into a generic TMS clinic instead of the provider you are requesting. The words "neurostimulation" and "Brain Treatment Center" plus the specific city are the key anchors. Do not substitute "TMS" or omit the clinic name.
You may need to repeat your request and confirm the clinic name and location are entered correctly in the system. This is normal in the VA process. Be persistent — you have the right to request Community Care when it's clinically appropriate.
Once your consult is approved, the VA's Community Care office will contact you to schedule. When they call, confirm again that your referral is specifically to Brain Treatment Center, Sterling Heights or Brain Treatment Center, Byron Center — not a generic TMS clinic.
In some cases, our clinic can contact the VA directly to help ensure your referral is properly routed and moving forward. Contact our care team at (269) 430-7966 if your referral is stalling or you need help navigating the process.
Many veterans living with PTSD also meet clinical criteria for Major Depressive Disorder — a condition that VA coverage and TRICARE explicitly cover for TMS treatment. The two conditions frequently co-occur, but they are not always diagnosed together.
Dr. Ramona Wallace, DO is a board-certified physician who conducts a full clinical evaluation before any treatment begins — including a intake evaluation with our psychiatrist as part of the intake process. If you come to us with a primary PTSD diagnosis, our team can assess whether MDD is also present and document it appropriately for coverage purposes.
This matters because VA Community Care coverage for neurostimulation is authorized for MDD. A complete clinical picture — not just a PTSD diagnosis in isolation — may open additional coverage pathways. Contact care team to discuss your specific situation before beginning the referral process.

Brain Treatment Center Michigan is not a generic TMS clinic that also treats veterans. We are a veteran-led organization with established relationships in the VA CCN system, experience with the Walking With Warriors program, and a physician team that understands the unique needs of the military community.
Our CEO Nathaniel Dickman is a retired USAF Lt. Colonel and Delta Airlines First Officer. We understand the culture, the barriers to seeking care, and what it means to serve. Brain Treatment Center Michigan has partnered with Walking With Warriors and continues to develop its VA CCN referral pipeline specifically to serve the veteran community.

Dr. Wallace reviews every patient's EEG findings, approves every treatment protocol, and personally conducts results appointments. She conducts full intake evaluation with our psychiatrists as part of intake — including assessment for co-occurring MDD in veterans presenting with PTSD.
