Brain fog, headaches, and concentration problems that linger after a concussion aren't "just something you live with." MeRT® starts with a qEEG brain map of your current brainwave activity, then builds a treatment protocol around what it finds.
Most concussions resolve in a few weeks. When symptoms persist past that window, standard care often has little more to offer than "give it more time." MeRT takes a different approach — mapping the current state of your brain's electrical activity to find exactly where normal communication has been disrupted.
That map becomes the basis for a treatment protocol built around your brain specifically, not a generic concussion-recovery timeline.
A concussion can leave the brain's neural networks in a pattern of dysregulation that doesn't self-correct on the usual recovery timeline. A qEEG brain map identifies that pattern precisely — showing where brainwave activity is abnormal and where coherence has been disrupted.
MeRT uses that data to deliver magnetic stimulation tuned to your brain's specific needs, encouraging the affected neural networks to re-establish healthier communication patterns. It's a protocol built around how your brain is functioning right now, not a one-size-fits-all concussion program.
The rTMS equipment used in MeRT is FDA-cleared for depression and OCD. Off-label application of FDA-cleared rTMS for concussion-related symptoms is similar to how many established treatments are used off-label in clinical practice, following a full evaluation.
Your first visit includes a full consultation with our physician team. We review your injury history, current symptoms, and any imaging records, then determine whether MeRT is appropriate for your situation.
A comfortable EEG cap records your brainwave activity — no needles, no discomfort. The data shows exactly where your brain's communication patterns have been disrupted.
Monday through Friday for approximately six weeks. Sessions are 30–45 minutes. The EEG is repeated at weeks two, four, and six so the protocol adjusts as your brain responds.
At the end of treatment, you review your before-and-after EEG data with the physician team — seeing exactly how your brainwave patterns changed over the course of treatment.
Brain Treatment Center Michigan approaches concussion recovery through a functional medicine lens — addressing the neurological impact of the injury alongside the systemic factors that influence healing.

Dr. Wallace oversees all clinical protocols at Brain Treatment Center Michigan. Her functional medicine background means treatment addresses root-cause neurological and systemic factors — not just symptoms.

View full profile →How long do concussion symptoms usually last?
Most concussions resolve within two to four weeks, but a meaningful number of patients develop persistent post-concussive symptoms lasting months or longer. If your symptoms haven't resolved on the usual timeline, that's exactly the situation MeRT's qEEG mapping is designed to evaluate.
Is MeRT safe after a recent concussion?
A full evaluation, including your injury history and timeline, determines whether MeRT is appropriate for your current stage of recovery. This is assessed individually at consultation, not assumed.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No referral is required to schedule a consultation. We do review any existing medical records or imaging you have as part of the evaluation.
Can MeRT help with concussion-related brain fog and concentration problems?
Brain fog and difficulty concentrating are among the most common reasons patients seek us out after a concussion. The qEEG brain map identifies the specific pattern of dysregulation behind these symptoms, and treatment is built around that pattern.
Is this treatment considered off-label for concussion?
The rTMS equipment used in MeRT is FDA-cleared for depression and OCD. Use for concussion and post-concussive symptoms is considered off-label, following a full evaluation, similar to how many established treatments are used off-label in clinical practice.
