Beginning treatment can feel like a big step. At Brain Treatment Center Michigan, our goal is to make the process clear, structured, and supportive from the very beginning.
Every patient begins with a consultation and brain mapping evaluation. From there, the physician reviews the results and determines whether treatment may be appropriate. If treatment is recommended, the program typically takes place over several weeks with ongoing monitoring to guide care.
Below is an overview of the typical treatment journey.
At your first appointment, you’ll meet with our functional medicine doctor for a consultation. During this visit, she will:
Following this consultation, you’ll receive a quantitative EEG (qEEG), also known as brain mapping, and an EKG. These tests measure brainwave activity and brain-heart coherence, and help the doctor understand how different areas of your brain are functioning.
The information gathered during this initial evaluation helps determine whether treatment may be appropriate and how it should be personalized.
NOTE: If you are using insurance, certain types of coverage may require an appointment with our psychiatrist. This appointment is solely to determine whether you meet insurance pay criteria (prior authorization) and is not a therapy or counseling appointment.
After the initial testing, the doctor carefully reviews the EEG data along with your clinical history.
If treatment is recommended, we develop a personalized protocol based on your brainwave patterns and symptoms.
The doctor will then meet with you by telehealth (or in person if you prefer) to review:
If you choose to move forward, treatment typically begins shortly after the evaluation process is completed.
Sessions generally take place:
Five days per week for approximately six weeks
Each appointment usually lasts 15-20 minutes, allowing many patients to continue working or attending school during treatment.
The treatment itself is non-invasive, and you remain awake and comfortable throughout the session.
Throughout the treatment program, the doctor monitors your progress and may adjust the treatment protocol if needed.
Every 10 days, we perform a new qEEG to observe changes in brainwave activity. These appointments (treatment + new qEEG) last about 30 minutes.
These follow-up evaluations help guide adjustments and ensure the treatment remains tailored to your brain activity patterns.
After each follow-up qEEG, you’ll have a telehealth appointment with the doctor to discuss the results and your ongoing treatment.
At the end of the treatment program, you’ll meet with the doctor via telehealth to review the results and discuss next steps.
Many patients complete treatment at that point, while others may benefit from additional follow-up evaluations depending on their clinical progress.
Our goal is to help you move forward with a clearer understanding of your brain health and treatment options.
During treatment, you sit comfortably in a chair while a specialized device delivers gentle magnetic pulses to targeted areas of the brain. The procedure is non-invasive, and you remain awake and alert throughout the session. Most people describe the sensation as a light tapping on the scalp.
Sessions are brief, and you can return to your normal activities immediately afterward.
If you have questions about the evaluation process, treatment schedule, or whether treatment may be appropriate for you, our team is happy to help.
