Struggling with Treatment-Resistant Depression? There’s a New Path Forward

We use brain mapping and targeted magnetic therapy to help where traditional treatments have failed.

If you’ve tried antidepressants, talk therapy, or even multiple combinations, and you’re still feeling stuck, you’re not alone. Up to one-third of people with depression don’t respond to standard treatments.

At the Brain Treatment Center Marshall, we offer MeRT® (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy), a breakthrough, noninvasive treatment that customizes magnetic stimulation based on your brain’s unique electrical activity. It’s a smarter, more personalized way to support the brain’s healing process.

What Is Treatment-Resistant Depression?

Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is diagnosed when symptoms persist despite trying at least two antidepressants. It can feel frustrating, isolating, and exhausting. But it doesn’t mean you’re out of options.

You may be experiencing:

  • Chronic sadness or hopelessness
  • Fatigue, sleep issues, or brain fog
  • Emotional numbness or lack of motivation
  • Thoughts of self-harm or feeling disconnected from life

TRD isn’t a personal failure. It’s a signal that your brain may need a different kind of support.

What Is MeRT and How Is It Different?

MeRT (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy) is an advanced form of TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) that uses brainwave analysis to guide and customize treatment. It’s safe, drug-free, and completely noninvasive.

Here’s how it works:

  1. We begin with a qEEG (quantitative EEG) and EKG to assess how your brain is functioning.
  2. We use this data to identify areas of disrupted communication or imbalance.
  3. A personalized magnetic stimulation protocol is developed just for you.

This targeted approach helps stimulate and reorganize brainwave activity, supporting improved mood, focus, and emotional regulation.

The Research Behind Magnetic Stimulation

Magnetic stimulation has been well-studied for treatment-resistant depression. A major trial published in JAMA Psychiatry compared rTMS to a medication switch and found:

  • 37.5% of patients responded to rTMS, compared to just 14.6% who improved after switching antidepressants.

  • 27.1% of patients achieved remission with rTMS, while only 4.9% did so with antidepressants.

MeRT is built on this foundation, adding brain mapping to increase accuracy and effectiveness.

What to Expect during MeRT Treatment

Treatment at Brain Treatment Center Marshall begins with a full evaluation:

  • qEEG and EKG testing to map your brain’s electrical activity
  • A consultation to review results and build your plan
  • A customized protocol using MeRT technology

During treatment:

  • Sessions last 30–45 minutes, five days per week
  • A full course typically runs 4–6 weeks
